Buddy Program Details
Our Buddy Program offers individuals with autism a personalized, supportive way to participate in faith-based and community life. Buddies are trained volunteers who walk alongside children, teens, and adults on the spectrum, offering one-on-one encouragement and assistance at church services, community events, or social gatherings. Their role is simple but powerful—to make sure no one feels left out, overwhelmed, or unseen.
For those with special interests, we’re excited to offer something even deeper: Special Interest Buddies. These are volunteers who are in it for the long haul—people who want to build relationships over time, uncovering what makes someone light up. Whether it’s animals, robotics, music, or visual arts, these Buddies help individuals explore their unique passions. They don’t just show up for one event; they stay involved, helping nurture growth, find opportunities, and build confidence in a way that’s consistent and meaningful. And if more support is needed, like finding training or educational pathways, we’re here for that too.
We also believe that individuals with autism make incredible volunteers themselves. That’s why our program welcomes volunteers on the spectrum, offering them the same sense of purpose, connection, and belonging. When someone on the spectrum becomes a Buddy, they’re not just helping others, they’re building leadership skills, independence, and joy.
If you’re looking for a Buddy, want to become one, or would like to support the heart of this mission, we’re here to walk alongside you. At Faith on a Spectrum, we believe that with the right support, everyone can shine.
